Washington State Car Accidents: 45 Vehicle Pile-Up Injuries Multiple Drivers

CarWreck

Car accidents in Issaquah can have devastating impacts, particularly on major highways and interstates surrounding our area. Multiple lanes of traffic and higher speed limits increase the likelihood of multi-vehicle collisions. After a 45-vehicle pile-up in Kent, our Issaquah auto accident attorney wants you to know the risks and your rights to compensation.

Multi-Car Pile Up In Kent, WA: 45 Drivers Involved In Crash

A multi-car pile-up on Interstate 5 happened on October 27, 2024, just south of State Road 516 in Kent. According to a FOX 13/Seattle news report, 45 motorists were involved in the crash. It stopped traffic for hours as 18 tow trucks cleared away the wreckage and road crews cleaned spilled oil and gas from the interstate.

Fortunately, while multiple drivers and passengers suffered injuries, none were considered life-threatening, and there were zero fatalities as a result of the crash. The Washington State Patrol is still investigating the case and what caused the multi-car pile-up but claims it resulted from a single crash between two motorists.

Protecting Yourself Against Multi-Vehicle Car Accidents In Issaquah

An estimated 150 drivers and passengers are killed each year in car accidents in King County, while as many as 10,000 people suffer personal injuries as a result of these crashes, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation. Busy highways and interstates are among the places where multi-car crashes are most likely to happen.

With so many other motorists nearby, a single collision on a major road can easily have a snowball effect, triggering a multi-vehicle crash.  When traveling along I-90 or other major roads in our area, our Issaquah car accident attorney recommends taking the following precautions to protect yourself:

  • Make sure your vehicle is well-maintained, as tire blowouts or other malfunctions increase the risks of a collision;
  • Put away your cell phone and other distractions while you’re driving;
  • Follow posted speed limits and reduce how fast you travel in heavy traffic or adverse weather;
  • Avoid tailgating and give other motorists plenty of space;
  • Watch what is going on around you as well as ahead of you in traffic, as sudden stops or other issues can trigger a multi-vehicle collision;
  • Keep clear of other motorists engaged in reckless driving behavior, which increases your risks;
  • Use caution around truckers, who often travel interstates, and be aware of blind spots that typically surround their rigs.
